There’s just something about Whatcom Falls Park.
This iconic spot in Bellingham is one of those local gems that never disappoints. Whether it’s the mossy stone bridge, the roar of the waterfall, or the winding forest trails dripping with ferns and filtered light—it’s a place that feels peaceful, timeless, and a little bit magical. And it’s truly beautiful in every season.
I met up with a sweet family of four for a session here—mom, dad, and their two little girls. Let me tell you…these girls were pure joy. Full of giggles, silly faces, and endless energy, they kept us all on our toes and brought so much life to every frame. We explored tucked-away trails, played on the bridge, and paused to admire the falls, all while capturing those authentic moments that make a family session so special.
What I love about sessions like this is the balance between gently posed portraits and all the fun, spontaneous shots in between. We definitely got those classic family photos—everyone looking at the camera and smiling—but some of my favorite images from the day are big sister twirling her dress, cuddling up to mom and dad, and chasing each other down the trail. Those fleeting, real-life moments are the ones you’ll treasure years from now when your kids suddenly seem so grown up.
Whatcom Falls Park is the perfect backdrop for this kind of session. It’s easy to access, offers a variety of gorgeous settings within a short walk, and feels like a little slice of Pacific Northwest wonder right in the middle of town. If you’re considering a session here, I highly recommend a weekday if possible—it’s usually quieter, making it easier for kids (and parents) to relax and have fun.
