It’s February and you all know what that means! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Valentine’s Day is historically one of the most popular days to get engaged, so I wanted to share some of my very favorite ring shots and a few tips on utilizing your macro lenses to really make these little babies POP! I think it’s important to document rings during engagement and wedding sessions and it’s taken me some time to actually find tricks that work!
Tip #1: Choose a location to put the ring that compliments the color and style of the ring. If you choose something too close in color, too chaotic or too bright the ring may just get lost.
Tip #2: Don’t shoot in direct sunlight. While it’s great to have a small reflector (or I like to use the flashlight on my phone!) to bring a small beam of light onto your subject and get that little glint, I have found that direct sun is too harsh to successfully capture the complexity of the stone. Some shadows allow for you to see more of the depth!
Tip#3: Remember to bump up your aperture and compensate your other camera settings to allow enough light into your lens. When you’re shooting macro you need to have a larger depth of field in order to have crisp details in your image.
Tip #4: HAVE FUN! Don’t be afraid to try creative ways to shoot!
every shot has captured perfectly, such a magical day!
