This was such a unique and exciting project to complete for our local Spark Museum of Electrical Invention– one of the biggest tourist attractions in all of Whatcom County! This incredible museum boasts a world-class collection of artifacts that tell the tale of the history and development of electricity, radio and early technology. From the Mega Zapper Electrical show to the hundreds of items to look at and hands-on exhibits, this space appeals to all ages.
The key goals for this session were to highlight the exhibits, the Mega Zapper show, the hands-on activities and to showcase their rental space available for all kinds of events from office parties to wedding receptions. It took some coordination with the fabulous team on-site to round up models, hone in on the shot list and to create an efficient timeline that would overlap with their upcoming holiday party where we could show the rental space in use. Most importantly, though, was the time it took to consider the proper lighting and gear to use in this space that would most effectively capture the atmosphere (and the electricity!) without taking away from the certain ambiance the museum has.
Thanks to a combination of on and off camera lighting, tripods and a variety of lenses including my 24-70mm, 35mm and 85mm, we were able to effectively photograph each unique space, people utilizing the exhibits and the Mega Zapper show in full swing. The team plans to use these images to market the museum to locals and visitors alike to share their passion and love for this special place and having photography that can help the general public understand what the museum is all about AND picture themselves enjoying an afternoon or special event here are key to helping spread the word!
