B-Town Kitchen and Raw Bar took over the old Poppie’s location, reference for you long time Bellinghamster’s, and the new layout is so spacious, clean and inviting- plus it’s got an amazing patio! Their menu is completely different from anything else offered on this side of Bellingham including a raw bar, various seafood dishes, your favorite pub staples and a full bar! Perfect for your upcoming date night or happy hour.
The Challenge
Working with seafood can be a challenge given the shiny nature of this kind of food, especially when working with raw seafood which is something B-town specializes in! Being sure you have the right lighting and diffusing equipment onsite is important in order to reduce shine and create shadows where you want them. I like to light seafood either from the side or the back and sometimes have a spray bottle on hand in order to provide specific droplets of water exactly where I want them to give a look of freshness.
The Project
As a new restaurant, it was important that I capture the ambiance of the space, the variety in the menu and the restaurant in action to give customers a good idea of what they could expect. Given that this session took place in the warmer months, we decided to highlight the patio seating and called in the help of some models to make it happen. Incorporating people into your food sessions brings that familiar and inviting sense of sitting around the table and sharing a meal- something we all love to do!
The Takeaway
We were able to get a huge variety of shots for the restaurant to use in promoting their new space, their menu and showing off the ambiance of the patio in use.
I offer shorter sessions perfect for menu updates and longer sessions for lifestyle and staff work, too! If you’re looking to update your restaurant photography, reach out today!
