When a client reaches out with the word “cakery” in the inquiry, I know I am ALL IN! Kristen, owner of Fidalgo Bay Cakery, reached out as she was in the process of building out her bakery space to offer more wedding cakes to more people in the Whatcom and Skagit areas. She was so enthusiastic and excited about this upgrade to her space and what it would do to her business! Once construction was complete, we got to work.
Kristen was looking for a selection of photos of the space that she could use to help tell the story of herself and her bakery to help connect her with current and future customers. We photographed the space squeaky clean and then we decided to pull out her epic cake stand collection and a few of the cakes she’s prepared to really make the space feel busy and exciting. I also have a cake stand obsession, so I was happy to find a way to incorporate these beauties!
From there it was onto headshots and lifestyle photos of her working. We tried a few different aprons, played around with the best lighting in her space, frosted cakes, poured caramel, leveled, laughed, sprinkled, cut cake, gold-leafed and laughed some more! I love it when I have an instant connection with clients and Kristen and I just clicked.
We wanted to utilize the cakes she’d prepared as thoroughly as possible, so we decided to cut them open and do some styling with simple props on the backgrounds I had brought down. We did two different styles of cake and these photos will be great for social media, print marketing, ads, her website and more!
Last, but definitely not least, we covered her workspace in confetti!!! We wanted to find a way to show her celebrating in her new space and these colorful flecks felt right.
This branding session included photos of her space, headshot portraits and lifestyle photos and styled food photography. Want to see other branding sessions like this? Check out the Client Co-op Makery, Neeter House of Luxury and Magnolia Marks Studio.
