Haxan Ferments, a Seattle based hot sauce and vinegar company, reached out to me about photographing four of their most popular flavors in a clean, bright, engaging way. Her main goals were to focus on more lifestyle product shots vs. the boring white background product work (what’s the difference!? Learn more about it here!) and to have images she could use on her website and that would stand out on Instagram.
The Challenge
The biggest challenge in working with reflective bottles is finding a balance between the natural reflection you will see in real life and being strategic and specific in where those reflections fall. We wanted the images to feel real, but didn’t want the reflection to take away from the ability to easily read and identify her brand.
The Project
By utilizing the strategic placement of off camera lighting as well as bounce cards and reflectors in the studio, we were able to achieve an authentic look. I wanted the photos to play off the colorful labels, so I included fresh ingredients that offered a lot of color and vibrancy while telling the story of the flavor profile for each product.
The Takeaway
The final project yielded 54 unique images that Haxan was then able to utilize for their social media presence, at farmer’s markets, in mailings and on their website!
