Neeter House of Luxury came to town in the beginning of 2023 and they have been absolutely taking names since the day they opened being voted “Best Jewelry Shop” in the 2023 Best of the Northwest Bellingham Alive Publication! While this new business storefront is new, John Neeter, owner, has been in the business for over 30 years and provides a unique, luxury shopping experience and a huge inventory to his customers. They offer everything from bridal and everyday jewelry to brand name watches and handbags. It was an honor to work with the team here and I’ve loved watching the community warmly welcome them. John reached out to me about photographing the space, his offerings and about lifestyle headshots of him and his staff that would help show the community the friendly, knowledgeable people you can expect to greet you as well as the luxury space and items you’d find!
The Challenge
Oddly enough, unlike many other projects, the biggest challenge of working in this space is the incredible amount of light found coming from all angles of this space. This makes for a great shopping experience and really highlights the beautiful gems, but can be tricky for creating the right kind of light on people. After a thoughtful walkthrough of the space I was able to pinpoint areas of the interior where the light fell on my subjects in a way that limited unwanted shadows or reflections as much as possible.
The Project
After photographing the space and getting a better idea of the lighting we were working with, I was able to help these camera-shy individuals find comfortable, authentic situations that allowed for a variety of different expressions and backdrops within the showroom. We were sure to highlight all the different kinds of products they offer and even had time for an outfit change! Whenever possible, I love to encourage my clients to consider changing outfits to allow for more longevity in the use of your images over time.
The Takeaway
Spreading time out over two different sessions we were able to capture a series of lifestyle headshots, details and big picture shots of the space and more product oriented images of their offerings. John has been able to use the images on his website, social media and in various print and digital add campaigns to promote his business locally and beyond.
