The next stop on our trip was Switzerland! We drove past Lichtenstein, saw Lake Thune and drove right into the Lauterbrunnen valley where we caught the Jungfraubahn railway which is a cog train that takes you from the valley floor WAYYY up to the little tiny town of Wengen. We stayed at Hotel Belevder and even though it rained the ENTIRE TIME we were there, it was still an incredibly magical place. We wandered the streets of Wengen, ate a burger for the first time since we’d left and LOVED IT. We cogged down to the valley floor and wandered Lauterburnnen, tried raclette. We even happen to be in town the weekend that the Cattle Descent Festival was happening where the farmers bring their cows down from the Alpine Pastures to the valley floor for the Winter. They dress them up in ribbons, flowers and all sorts of accessories and proudly escort them down the slopes. We took the cog, then a train and THEN a bus all the way over to the St. Beatus Caves in Beatenberg and spent the afternoon checking out the Swiss caves and staying out of the rain. Even with all the fog and clouds, the mountain sides were pretty fantastic to witness!
