Lily came all the way to Washington from her home state of Arizona for a senior session in the Roozengaarde tulip fields of the Skagit Valley! We lucked out with an absolutely gorgeous morning and we had so much fun weaving throughout the many beautiful backdrops. There are a few key things I encourage to all of my tulip session clients to ensure we get the best results!
> Plan your session for a weekday morning. This is essential if you want to have the best chance at getting shots with few people in them. Weekends are far too busy and the most beautiful backdrops will be dotted with ton of little people if you go later in the day.
> Be prepared for any weather! Because the tulip season is so short, sometimes you’ve just got to roll with the punches. Whether it’s rain or shine, the tulips are always beautiful and we will make it fun no matter the weather. Great items to bring along for rainy days are tall boots and clear umbrellas!
> The tulips bloom on their own schedule, so you never know exactly when peak blooms will be happening. I recommend aiming for a session mid to late April as this seems to be most reliable!
> Be sure to check out the bloom map to see where flowers are blooming!
> If you plan to change outfits, be aware that there are no “real” bathrooms onsite and there is no re-entry to and from the grounds, so be prepared for a quick, simple change that can happen in public or in the confined space of a porta-potty!
I’m always so happy to have the opportunity to work in the tulip fields and look forward to another gorgeous year next season! Want to see other posts in the tulips? Check out this sweet Mom + daughter session or previous shots of the fields over the years!
