Photographing the many flavors of Fidalgo Fudge was an absolute dream come true for me! I love working with small packaged food items like this and the huge variety of flavors offered left a lot of room for creative fun.
The Challenge
Trista contacted me at the end of March 2020, just after the pandemic had begun, when she was left with thousands of pounds of fudge that she typically sold each year at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Due to COVID-19, she needed to find a new way to get her delicious fudge out into the world- and quick. She knew that moving her sales to an online platform was going to be the only way to make this work. Moving to online sales meant that it was extremely important that we found creative ways to photograph each individual kind of fudge in a unique way that showcased their individual flavor profile so that people would have a good understanding of what they could expect when ordering online. Trista shared with me that it was really important to her that the photos have a modern, bright, crisp feel.
The Project
SO, we got to work on creating a list of the different kinds of fudge she wanted to photograph along with the ingredients in each flavor and props that would work well for the overall look she was trying to achieve. On the session date, 35 different flavors of fudge arrived to my studio and the fun began. It took over 9 hours to complete this project which included changing backgrounds and restyling props for nearly every single fudge variety. I was sure to get both vertical and horizontal shots of each type, including packaging throughout the session as well. I used side light to help bring out the fabulous texture of her fudge and was sure not to over-prop the scenes so that the fudge could be the hero!
The Takeaway
In the end, this project yielded 353 total final images that Trista was immediately able to use in her online store and in her other social media and marketing campaigns throughout the pandemic and beyond! Since this session in 2020, she has continued to use the images in marketing her fabulous new brick and mortar store in downtown Anacortes. It is always my goal that the photos we create of your product will continue to encapsulate your brand so they can be used for years to come!
