Why Some People Are Camera Shy
I’d say that easily 80% of my new clients mention they’re hesitation and worry about being in front of the camera either before or during our session. It’s no secret that getting your photo taken is uncomfortable for most people. I get it! It IS hard to know what to do with your hands, to know where to stand, how to relax into a situation rather than feel forced and overly posed. These things are genuinely hard for most people to do, including myself, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. That is why you hire a photographer you love and trust!
A great photographer will know exactly how to direct you into situations that allow you to relax, loosen up and start to just be in the moment rather than in front of the camera. They will know exactly how to find the best angles for your figure and the most flattering. They’ll watch for your fly away hairs, your double chins and the weird arm you don’t know what to do with – and they will help you.
Working with a photographer that you love is so important for amazing photos. They should be someone you click with and trust and from there, it’ll be FUN <3

Extra Tips on How to Get Over Camera Shyness
- Practice making faces in the mirror – I know it sounds silly, but I swear that it helps. Think of all the different smiles you can make, about where you part your hair, if you prefer one side to the other.. try different things to see what you like best and let your photographer know!
- Think about bringing along props of some kind or to choose an activity that will allow you to be doing something else other than worrying about the camera. Picnics and games are fun ways to set a scene, or even by bringing along a bright colorful blanket, there are all sorts of ways to incorporate items and give you something active to do!
Wear something that makes you feel like a rockstar. There’s no dress code when it comes to photo sessions – you wear what makes you feel empowered and excited!
