That’s where my sessions come in. As a lifestyle family photographer working throughout Whatcom County, I work hard to move past the uncomfortable-ness that can come with family photos and create a fun, interactive, and playful session that brings out the real smiles and big giggles. Every family session includes thoughtful planning, gentle guidance during the shoot, and a relaxed, enjoyable experience. Before becoming a photographer, I spent several years as a preschool teacher, which means I’m comfortable reading the room, keeping kids engaged, and adjusting the pace as needed. I approach family sessions with flexibility and a sense of humor, allowing kids to be themselves while gently guiding the group. For larger or multi-generational sessions, I help organize groupings and flow so everything feels calm, clear, and surprisingly fun.
Individual family sessions are designed for one family unit: parents and their kids; they focus on capturing your immediate family together. Multi-generational sessions include extended family with no limit on the number of people. These sessions include full group photos, individual family units, and meaningful groupings you care most about.
I photograph family sessions using natural light throughout Bellingham and Whatcom County, so outdoor locations are always a great option. I also love working in light and bright homes when there’s good natural light, since it allows us to capture your family in a space that already feels like you. If you’re not sure what will work best, I’m always happy to help you decide.
Every session is different, but most family sessions include approximately 40 to 60 fully edited digital images. Larger multi-generational sessions may include more, depending on the size of the group and length of the session.
No. Your final images will be delivered without watermarks and with personal usage rights, so you’re free to print, share, and enjoy them however you’d like.
Babies are absolutely welcome and included in family sessions. During these sessions, they’re photographed as part of the family rather than as the main focus. The pace and flow are designed around everyone together.
Dedicated newborn sessions are a little different. They allow for extra time, a slower pace, and focused attention on your baby to capture those tiny details, expressions, and moments in a way that’s just not possible during a family session. If you’re hoping for images that center entirely on your newborn, I recommend exploring the Newborn Photography page to find the experience that best fits what you’re looking for.
Yes. Travel within Bellingham and up to 20 miles is included. I also regularly work with families coming from Seattle and Snohomish County. For sessions outside that range, custom travel quotes are provided, generally at $75 per hour.

I highly recommend Katheryn Moran Photography! She was easy to work with, adjusting the shooting date by 6 months due to the Christmas 2022 aviation melt down. At the photo shoot with 14 people involved, she did a great job of organizing these people into groups for all the various combinations of subjects, some of whom are young children and tire quickly. In addition, she came “loaded for bear” with two cameras with different lenses to speed up the shoot so that multiple shots of all the different combinations could be made with several different backdrops – all within an hour. Amazing! What else is amazing is the quality of the results – 125 “WOW” pictures. You can’t go wrong this this photo artist!

Katy was wonderful to work with! She worked with our difficult schedule and was able to fit a session in on short notice for our newborn photos! She brought amazing backdrops and things to really accent the pictures amazingly well and she soothed and rocked the baby like she was her own! Her prices were more than reasonable and such a deal after seeing the final pictures! I hope there will be more events in the future we can hire her first!
Follow up 2023; Katy has been the ONLY photographer we use for the last decade. She is AMAZING and works so quickly and seemlessly with our family. Our kids love her almost as much as we do!
