The Challenge
When the team over at Terramar Brewstillery in Edison, WA reached out to me, they were looking for a complete collection of assets from imagery of their space, behind the scenes in the kitchen and brewing areas in action, photos of their merchandise and of course their food, beer and cocktails! This restaurant is unique in that it really has two different businesses under one roof – one side of the house is the brewery serving mostly beer and pizza and the other side is a speak-easy style cocktail bar. We wanted to be sure we showcased a good mix of both of these areas and the different things they offer so we created a detailed timeline, thoughtful shot list and noted key differences between the two spaces. When they reached out to me in late 2020, Washington state was still deep in the throws of Covid and pandemic life, so we worked hard to create a safe environment that made everyone feel comfortable to make this session happen. Given the hard hit that so many restaurants took during this time, it was even more important that we create content that would help keep their customer base engaged and money coming in!
The Project
We started with photos of the different spaces, including their awesome outdoor patio, and the brewing area before I hopped in the kitchen to get some actions shots of the masters at work. The team here has an awesome custom build pizza oven that really stole the show, but they offer amazing salads and appetizers as well. After about a half hour of pizza flipping and orders running out the door, I spent time with the bar staff to capture cocktail making and beer pours. In the meantime, the kitchen was whipping up a table full of food so we could end with some more lifestyle shots of a full table and a variety of different menu items.
The Takeaway
Building in the time for all these different aspects of the Terramar business allowed for me to deliver a beautifully curated collection of images that were consistent and we rounded. They were able to use these photos for advertising all sorts of different special offers during the pandemic and have since been able to use the photos for marketing purposes in post-pandemic times. The longevity of the photography is absolutely something to consider when you hire a photographer – it’s ideal to work with someone who can give you a collection that will go a long way! Check out some other local restaurants I have helped to create content for including Due Cucina Italiana, Maple Bar and Galloways!
