Camano Island has a way of slowing things down, which made it the perfect setting for this multi-generational family session. With the beach stretching out behind them and a place that already felt like home, this family gathered to document their time together in a way that felt natural, meaningful, and unforced.
This session was planned as a gift for the grandparents, which always adds an extra layer of intention. With three family units, two young kids, two dogs, and a whole lot of love, the goal wasn’t perfection — it was presence. Sweet moments, silly interactions, and images that felt true to who this family is right now.
Choosing Iverson Spit Preserve was no accident. Camano Island is home for the grandparents, and the beach has long been a place where their family gathers, walks, and slows down together. Photographing them there allowed the session to feel relaxed and familiar — the kids could explore, the dogs could join in naturally, and everyone had space to just be themselves.

One of my favorite parts of multi-generational sessions like this is how they unfold organically. We start with everyone together, then gently break into smaller groupings — grandparents with their grandkids, individual family units, siblings, couples, and quiet moments in between. Those in-between moments are often where the magic lives: a grandparent crouching down to meet a toddler at eye level, a shared laugh between siblings, a dog weaving through legs at just the right moment.
Having young children and pets involved might sound chaotic, but it’s actually what makes these sessions feel so real. There’s movement, curiosity, and spontaneity — and that’s what creates images that families return to again and again. Not stiff or overly posed, but full of life and connection.

Milestone and multi-generational sessions like this are such a powerful way to document your family’s story. They freeze a moment in time — not just what everyone looked like, but how it felt to be together. Especially when photographed in a place that already means something, the images become even more meaningful over time.

If you’ve been thinking about gathering your family together for photos — whether as a gift, a celebration, or simply because time feels like it’s moving too fast — I can’t recommend it enough. These sessions are relaxed, thoughtful, and designed to honor the relationships that matter most. Get in touch today and let’s capture your family!
