I love when past clients refer friends and family—it’s the highest compliment I can receive! That’s how I got to meet Melanie and her family this late summer. They were ready for a fun, relaxed family session, and I couldn’t wait to spend an afternoon capturing their connection, energy, and joy.
We met at Squalicum Beach, a perfect late summer spot with coastal vibes, open space, and just enough forested nooks to add variety. Melanie’s boys are 10 and 13, a stage where family photos can sometimes feel tricky—but they were total naturals. The goal for this session was simple: playful, candid moments where the kids could truly be themselves. Their 18-month-old golden retriever, Stanley, joined in the fun too, adding extra energy and giggles to the mix.

From running games of tag to and chasing the dog around, and even making our way down to the beach for sunset, we captured a lot of laughter and spontaneous connection. These are the moments that make families who they are—the little gestures, silly faces, and genuine giggles that a posed shot just can’t replicate.
Melanie shared that it had been a few years since their last family photos, and it was so rewarding to see how much has grown and changed while still holding that sense of togetherness. These sessions are a snapshot of their life as it is today. I left with a smile (and slightly wet shoes!) knowing they’d have a collection of images that really show their family’s spirit.

Sessions like these remind me why I love lifestyle family photography. It’s not about perfection—it’s about capturing real families being real, the love, laughter, and chaos that make them unique. Thanks, Melanie, for trusting me to capture these memories for your family and for sending me your way!
