Warm sand, long stretches of golden light, and just enough breeze coming off the water to keep everyone comfortable—this summer session at Semiahmoo had everything going for it.
This family of five leaned all the way into the experience, which always makes a session come alive. We started along the boardwalk, letting the kids set the pace. The brothers didn’t need much direction—they were off running, jumping, and turning the whole evening into a game. Those bursts of energy mixed with genuine laughter are exactly what make photos feel like real memories instead of staged moments.
They brought along their family car, which ended up being such a fun and personal element to include. Everyone piled in together—kids climbing over seats, parents tucked in close, windows down, hair blowing everywhere. It had that spontaneous, road-trip kind of feeling that just fits summer so well. Some of my favorite frames came from those slightly chaotic, everyone-in-the-car moments.
From there, we moved through the tall grass, using it to add texture and a softer, layered feel to the images. Down on the beach, the light really opened up. The combination of sand, water, and sky gave us that clean, airy Pacific Northwest look, while the nearby buildings and boardwalk added just enough structure and contrast to keep things visually interesting.
Sessions like this are why summer in the PNW is hard to beat. Kids can move, explore, and be themselves without layers or distractions, and everything just feels a little more relaxed. It’s less about posing and more about letting your family interact the way you actually do—messy, playful, and connected.
