Some families just become part of your world when you do this long enough. I’ve been photographing this crew for years now — long before Knox was big enough to sprint through the house with Buzz Lightyear in hand — and every time I spend time with them it feels less like “a session” and more like catching up.
This in-home family session was one of those days that perfectly captured why I love photographing families in their own space. Home is where kids are most themselves, and Knox wasted no time showing me exactly who he is right now — curious, playful, imaginative, and always on the move.
We leaned fully into his world. Legos on the floor, favorite books pulled off the shelf, jumping on the bed, laughing between moments, and plenty of running and goofing around in between. Nothing overly posed — just space for him to play while his parents stayed close, soaking it all in. Those in-between moments are always where the magic lives.
One of my favorite parts of the session was incorporating a few meaningful details that live in their home every day. A handmade blanket that her mom had started before she passed was gently woven into the photos — quiet, subtle, and full of history. These are the kinds of keepsakes that tell a deeper story without needing words.
And of course, Buzz Lightyear made several appearances — flying through the air, leading adventures, and somehow ending up in just about every room of the house. Exactly as it should be.
Sessions like this are such a reminder that family photos don’t need perfect outfits or pristine spaces. They just need room to breathe. When kids are comfortable and parents can relax, the photos naturally become honest, playful, and full of connection — the kind you’ll actually recognize years from now.
I’m always so grateful to be invited back into homes like this, year after year, to document these seasons as they unfold. These are the stories that matter. Get in touch and let’s tell yours!
